Rusty Livingston, Chetopa, uses a demolition hammer to break down the east wall of Building 315 at the former Kansas Army Ammunition Plant. Livingston is an employee of Matrix Environmental Services which has the contract for Great Plains Development Authority to remediate the former production areas.  The building was a 52,323 sq ft assembly house which required extensively reinforced walls when constructed in 1941. The wall in the photo is 36" thick at the top, widening to 48" at the bottom; the rebar is in various sizes up to 1.25".  Following demolition of the walls, the slab and sub-surface soil will also be excavated due to detections of explosives that filtered through cracks over the past 70 years.
